Good Audio Makes A Good Video

Bottom line:

People will watch any video, as long as the content is compelling and the sound is good.

The other component to this is that there is no decent onboard microphone on any camera. Be it a lowly Flip cam, to a $4000 “prosumer” camera.

Here are a few tips to help you capture good audio for your videos:

  1. You need to pay attention to the source of the sounds and be specially mindful of wind noise, people breathing, cars driving by etc.
  2. You’ll get much better sound for your interview videos if you use at least a lavalier microphone. The sound capture source will be right next to your interview subject and will likely be less distorted.
  3. If it’s windy, and you don’t have a pop filter for the mic, try to stand between your subject and the wind and use your body to shelter the microphone from the wind.

Audio quality, is one of the most important components of a video.
